I made home made with our first and I should be doing it with this one. If you can afford organic, I would go for it.

I liked Beech Nut the best. They seemed more natural, but my youngest is 4 now...and I know that they make some of the Gerber foods all natural now.

Did you know that the baby food you feed your baby from the grocer's shelves is probably OLDER than your baby? Ponder on that :-) and then bake a sweet potato and mash it up, add some water or formula or breast milk to help thin it out. Blend or puree until thin and feed your baby!

Ok, if that was difficult, peel a ripe banana, mash it with a fork until soupy and then feed it to your baby :-) Yep, that banana cost about .05 cents and will give you 2-3 feedings for beginners. That jar of bananas (is it really banana in there?) cost you .49 cents and will give you 2-3 feedings.....

Make your own! It's easy, so much more fresh and healthy and your baby will benefit from the tastes and textures and probably only eat the "stage 1" thin runny stuf for 2 months.

http://www.wholesomebabyfood.com
is the best resource for homemade baby food! Free downloads too! Great cost comparison from making your own to buying it. Did you know carrots are like .05 an ounce while the jar stuff is like .19 an ounce?

Gerber. Organic is good and healthy though. But later on incorporate food you usually eat-table food.

I use Earth's Best, Organic Baby, Gerber Organic and homemade. I like the first two because they have a lot of different types of food for him to try, like lentils and rice, corn and butternut squash, summer veggies with zucchini etc. The Gerber stuff is good for staples like bananas and sweet potatoes. Oh, and Whole Foods has a great organic rice cereal (I can't remember the name) that's from whole-grain brown rice that looks and tastes almost exactly Gerber's rice cereal. A definite plus if your baby is a picky eater.

I wasn't totally sold on the organic stuff at first but after reading how prevalent pesticides are in baby food, especially since it is typically made up of condensed fruits and veggies, I decided to cut out all non-organic stuff. I also just read a Consumer Report that recommends going as organic as possible because of the effects of pesticides on babies (link below). I've also included links to an EPA study that talks about different foods, for babies and older children, that cause them to go over their recommended safe allowance of pesticide exposure in a single serving. Some baby foods are on that list! Scary huh? It sure sounds like I'm an organic "nut" but I'm not really, I don't eat organic or anything, but after researching a bit I've definitely had a change of heart on what I feed my baby. :)

I use gerber and beech nut, I've never tried the organic, I honestly don't think it makes much difference, with the pollution in the air, the fruit and veggies that they used are still going to be exposed to something, yah know.

i used gerber and made my own. I think if you can afford organic to get it, it just doesnt have the pesticides and gross stuff like the regular but there is no proven added nutrition or anything. I now cook with all organic though now that he's at table food. oh and it is tested through the food and drug administration for pesticides!!

Make your own.
It is SO much cheaper and you'll know exactly what your child is getting.
It's really not all that complicated.

Breast cells have estrogen and progesterone receptors. When estrogen and progesterone connect with those receptors, they signal the cells of the breast to grow and divide, and therefore the breasts become larger. By the same token, breast cancer may be caused when these hormones cause growth and division of damaged breast cells, and if the damage is such that it's cancerous, the cancer will proliferate. That's why women with breast cancer will often take things that block those receptors.
