Does your baby have frequent diaper rash? Do they seem to be itchy and uncomfortable? Taking care of your baby’s skin is incredibly important especially in the first few months of their life. Many might think that taking care of your baby’s skin isn’t all that important. When your baby is born their skin looks so perfect and healthy. While it might seem that way, your baby’s skin needs lots of attention to prevent problems in the future.

When your baby is first born their skin is still developing. This is why newborns are always so pink. Their skin is still growing into a healthy barrier to protect it from harmful infections and bacteria. Keeping their skin moisturized will help their skin to develop. Your child needs the right balance of creams and lotions to accomplish this. The development of the skin is the most important in the first few months.

Another very common skin problem is diaper rash. Almost every baby gets this at some point in their early life. Keeping extra good care of their skin while they have the rash will help them to heal better. Make sure to keep an eye on how the rash looks. If it’s extremely wet you’ll want to apply some sort of ointment to seal in the moisture. If their rash is very dry and their skin seems to be cracking you’ll want to apply some sort of lotion.

There are other issues that your child may experience with their skin in their early years. Allergies are another very common cause of skin irritation. Since you don’t know exactly what your child is safe to be around or eat, you’ll have to keep a very close watch on them. If after eating certain foods your child develops a rash they may have a sensitivity to it. This is something you’ll need to consult your pediatrician about. Hive may also develop in severe cases but this is normally treated with medication and not creams or lotions. If your child experiences itching, swelling or raised skin and you don’t know what it is from, consult your physician immediately. Catching these problems early can save your baby a lot of problems down the road.

Following simple guidelines such as these will help you to keep your baby healthy. This isn’t just to help your child while they’re young but to help them grow into an adult without skin problems. Take care of their skin early on and they’ll be much more likely to not have skin care issues later. Your baby is very important to you and their skin care should be no different.
